The City of Akron and Coventry Township Trustees are pleased to inform you that the Portage Lakes Water Main Extension project has received favorable funding from the Ohio EPA. This funding will help offset a good portion of the costs to install new water mains in your area and make it more affordable for you to connect to the new water mains and become City of Akron water customers. Many of you have expressed an interest in obtaining Akron water through this project and we expect additional residents to want to take advantage of this special financing opportunity.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME?
You will have the opportunity to connect to newly installed City of Akron water mains to receive fresh high quality drinking water to your residence and eliminate problematic wells on your property. The City of Akron has set a residential tap-in fee of $9,250 to connect your property to the new water mains and become a City of Akron water customer. The City of Akron will also offer the option to finance this cost over 15 years at 1% interest per year resulting in a payment of approximately $56/month. If you decline this offer now as part of this project, you will not be eligible to benefit from the special financing terms in the future and your tap-in fee will be based on the City of Akron Tap-In Fee policies in place at the time of the request.

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE
The City of Akron will be diligently working towards finalizing water main extension plans and procuring a contractor to install the new water mains in your neighborhood. The water main extensions are expected to begin Spring of 2024 with water service connections occurring shortly after.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
Attend a Town Hall meeting on October 18th, 2023, at Coventry Community Center at 6:00 p.m. to discuss cost breakdown, low-interest financing options, service agreements, and to answer remaining questions you have. Following the Town Hall meeting, you will have to make a commitment to becoming an Akron water customer and sign the service agreement. You will have two (2) months to sign the Akron water service agreement and return it to us in order to be included in the special financing opportunity.
